The photographs sit on a logarithmic spiral, each drawn at a size proportional to its own distance from the centre. That proportion is the whole trick. It makes the arrangement identical to itself under rotation, so every turn of the crank is the same turn, and the drain has no bottom to reach.

Hub turns on the freehub. It is an Industry Nine Hydra, approximately: 690 points of engagement, which is why at any real speed the individual pawl strikes stop being clicks and fuse into a tone. Every strike is synthesised rather than sampled, so the buzz thins back out into countable ticks as the crank slows. A real freehub is silent under power and sings only when it overruns; here driving it just ducks the level, so freewheeling is still the fuller sound without the hub going mute the moment you take hold of it.
In Chrome and Edge, a Connect crank button appears. Any ordinary Bluetooth cycling cadence sensor, the kind that zip-ties to a crank arm, will drive this over Web Bluetooth. It reports revolutions and timing but carries no direction, so backpedalling still reads as forward.
